We have one other Tit in the British Isles, the crested Tit but they are mostly found in the Scottish Highlands. The Bearded Tit was once thought to be a member of the same family but it is now thought to be more closely related to the babblers of tropical Africa and Asia.

The Tit Family

The tufted titmouse is one of my very favorite birds. Our neighbor has one who visits his feeder, and I'm constantly trying to bribe it over to mine. No luck, but I'm still trying!
ReplyDeleteI am amazed of how good your photos are.
ReplyDeleteI love coming here.
nice photos Mary
ReplyDeleteLong Tails aren't true Tits by the way!
I liked this lesson in tits, Mary! Of course everyone here who is not a birder laughs when we talk about tits. Our chickadees are very similar birds and we have different species in the different parts of the country, just as you do.
ReplyDeleteAll pretty, but the Blue Tits are really beautiful. I love their colors. Such a nice colorful addition to a garden.
