Slufter Enclosure.

The forestry commission have been doing a lot of work in this area. Firstly they are removing most of the pine trees and returning the forest to native species such as oak, beech and birch.However they are also trying to return parts of the forest back to bog.So they have been removing the drainage channels. They have also taken down the enclosure fences down allowing the ponies into the enclosure.
It is still dull and grey here but at least it wa dry even if the paths were very muddy. Fortunately mud doesn't show that much on black dogs!
Raffles raced off here, maybe he saw some deer but when he came back we noticed he was limping a little bit so he will have to have a few shorter walks this week.

Its been wet

We did have two walks in the forest today, but it has been rather wet so now I am curled up in my bed! XXX Raffles 

Lyndhurst and Chocolate temptation!

This morning I met Gill in Lyndhurst for a little wander round the Village.
Lyndhurst is known as the capital of the New Forest and in summer the High Street is full of tourists but today the street was nearly empty. We had a look in the deserted shops, most survive on the summer tourist trade and are geared towards the tourists. It is very hard to make a living here as few people buy during the winter months. Nowadays apart from a butchers, a greengrocers and a small supermarket the shops are either estate agents, or gift shops.
We looked in the antique shop and the camping shop.. Then we browsed through a couple of the gift shops before entering the Chocolate shop. This has taken over the former tea rooms. We were the only customers but we had a delicious cup of chocolate and sampled the chocolate bars.......yummy!
As I drove home I stopped just outside the Village and took a picture of Boltons Bench and the cricket pavillion.
Boltons benchcommemorates a member of the Ducal Family which held the office of Master Keeper of Burley Baliwick throughout the 18th century

Another Cold Day

Woke up to a very heavy frost and it has been cold all day. This afternoon we walked at Fritham, the wind was very cold, but we got some shelter from it in the trees.
Hopefully we will get some sun soon and maybe next week Dora's paw will have recovered enough so that we can try walking together again.

The North wind does Blow!

It is really windy today and it feels very cold out in the forest. Today we walked at canadian again but for a change we went to the pond first and then down to the stream.As soon as the dogs saw the pond they were racing towards it......but it was cold and they only paddled before we continued with our walk. It was a very brisk walk and I was glad to get back to the warmth of the car........the dogs however loved the wind and ran about alot more.
