The commoners (those whose properties have forest rights) are allowed to let their pigs graze on the open forest.and eat the acorns. Each year for 90 days the pigs come out often with little piglets to eat the acorns. Too many acorns can make the ponies very sick and the Pigs eat a lot so reducing the numbers left for the ponies.
