Well Looks like our little calf is doing well for himself. he has emigrated to Australia and found some friends and an old abandoned homestead.

Actually i was taking part in a Flickr challenge and I couldn't think what to do so my little calf came in useful!

Charged by a Pig!

Eventually this piggy decided she didn't want her photo taken and charged towards us. Fortunately a friend had also stopped to take photos and we were able to jump in her car . Apparently s pig in this area charged a walker in the forest and bit them!jean drove me the 100yards to the safety of my car , but i think i had a lucky escape!Do you like his trendy nose rings, and his cute little pigtail? Its Pannage time

Pannage is one of the five ancient rights in the Forest. The commoners (those whose properties have forest rights) are allowed to let their pigs graze on the open forest.and eat the acorns. Each year for 90 days the pigs come out often with little piglets to eat the acorns. Too many acorns can make the ponies very sick and the Pigs eat a lot so reducing the numbers left for the ponies.
These very big Pigs were grazing right by the side of the road and I spotted them as I left the carpark this morning I couldn't resist stopping to take a few photos.

The Rut is on

This morning I spent some time watching this fallow Buck roaring and guarding his harem. As I watched I noticed another stag slinking away, obviiously unable to attract any of the does away. The stag was down the hill a bit nd I was standing on a floating bog trying to get the photos. they are not the best, but I really enjoyed watching him roaring away.
Eventually they must have sensed by they were being watched and away they went down the hill and out of sight.

A glorious Autumn day

Today karen, Taivas, Missy and I walked at Fritham . it was a beautiful warm sunny day and I soon had to take off my fleece. We walked down to the little stream and as we did we heard the roar of a fallow buck, calling his does. We could see them way in the distance. After the dogs had played in the stream we continued and came around behind the deer. The buck was roaring well and although we had good views we were a little to far away for photos. We went on and into the woods where there are several rutting stands , but although we saw plenty of deer prints and we could see where the bucks had been rutting we heard no calls and no deer were to be seen. Out of the woods we let the dogs off the leads for a while , but we soon disturbed some fallow does hiding in the heather.. We spent three hours enjoying the dun and the sights of the forest before we took two tired but happy dogs home.
At the start of our walk these cows were grazing.

Views on our walk at Fritham

Here we are watching a group of fallow does responding to the calls of a buck. The deer were a little way offf down in the valley and although at times we had good views of the stag it was hard to get photos.

In the woods i saw this little fly agaric. it has been a good year for fungi, the recent rain has spurred them into popping up all over the place. Posted by Picasa
Missy and Taivas have a short rest as we come out of Fritham woods. Posted by Picasa
Missy and taivas are waiting for us to catch up. Right after these photos were taken we disturbed two fallow does that were lying in the heather. They were so close , but we were too busy catching the dogs to get photos, fortunately as we neared the end of our walk two more ran across our path.
