Ashley Walk and Mottisfont Abbey.

This morning it was bright and sunny. We took the dogs to Ashley walk for a stroll. The stream has completely dried up in places, but the dogs did find some place to paddle but nowhere deep enough for Missy to swim.
After the dogs had their walk we decided to take a trip to Mottisfont Abbey Originally It was a priory founded in 1201 by William Briwere. After the dissolution of the monasteries during Henry VIII's reign the Priory was converted into a house, which was given to the National Trust in 1957 . The House has a room painted by Rex Whistler in 1939 Whistler was painting this room when the Second World War began AS Whistler was killed in Normandy in 1944 this is the last room he decorated.
Mottisfont is famous for its walled rose garden, however the roses are not at their best as yet.The peonies , foxgloves and aquilegis were very colourful however and we spent a pleasant hour admiring them. We may go back later in the month and have another look at the roses.
