The start of the walk 

Over the Hills and Far Away

Having enjoyed our walk and lunch last weekend we decided to go for another one today. The sun is shining, the sky is blue and again we have managed to find the carpark. (small miracle as this one was hidden and unmarked)We start by walking along old gravel workings which have grassed over. Before long we are walking down a green track between farmland leading to the Latchmore brook. We see some white geese and continue on our way. Soon we are out on open heathland again and the dogs are off lead again. We have wonderful views of gently rolling hills. It must look spectacular when the heather is blooming. We take a detour to Dockens water so the dogs can cool off and we can have a rest, before climbing once again. In the distance we can see five buzzards circling. We descend again to a small hamlet at Furze Hill, The cottages are beautiful and we would love to live in such a beautiful spot.It is a very steep climb back up to where the cars are awaiting us and we are glad to arrive at the Royal Oak North Gorley for a drink and some food.

Afternoon at Ashley Walk

It is another beautiful spring afternoon and today we are going to try and walk across the stream and then up along the ridge towards telegraph and back down to Jacobs Gutter. After we have crossed the stream we go up the hill and soon we can see the white house at Telegraph in the distance. Soon the gravel track comes to a grassy lawn and we find a path to go down to Jacobs Gutter. When we get there the footbridge marked on the map seems to have disappeared but it is a pleasant walk along the stream that disappears and then reappears from the bog. Several times we have to cross the stream to find less boggy ground to walk and we are surprised to find the walk takes us two hours.

Spring is in the air

After a few gray days the sun is shining again. This morning we walked from Andrews mare carpark. This is one of Missy's favourite walks as there is a large pond for swimming. Today it was even more exciting as we met Dora there. We had only walked a few hundred yards before we saw a small herd of fallow deer, including a white one. (The white fallow deer are not true albinos just much paler than the others.)

The pictures I have posted show Missy's idea of helping in the garden as well as her playing with her best friend Dora.

I have also included a couple of the poor lovelorn sparrow who has fallen in love with his reflection in the car mirror. He is there everytime I go out and is very tame . Yesterday he did not fly off until after the car started moving.
