Still no sign of Summer

Walked at Spring Bushes this morning. It is still cold and threatening to rain. The foals are everywhere now . There seem to be more than usual at this time of year. Foals will be born right up to the beginning of September.
Called in at Bob and Gills on the way home for a cup of coffee. Dogs had a play in the garden and Missy was so intent on stealing Dora's toys that she did not notice the pond!
Raining as we drove home but John managed to cut the grass before lunch.

Dodging the showers.

Another very showery day. We stopped by Cadmans pond to see how the goslings are doing. Saw the same two families we saw a few weeks ago. We then drove on to North Oakley for a walk. It was very wet underfoot and the rain has made the bracken sprout up. The foxgloves are beginning to flower. We got back to the car as the heavens opened.

More rain than sunshine

Today started off beautifully sunny, although a little cool and I took the camera on my morning walk at Busketts. There is a splendid oak with low branches for climbing on in the carpark. Leaving the carpark we walk along side the cricket pitch, only a few matches are played here each year. Crossing a small ditch we walk through the trees and down to the stream. Raffles has a paddle but Missy loves to swim in the deeper parts.
As we came back along the ditch I suddnely saw a patch of the Common Purple Orchid had appeared. A couple af weeks ago I looked and could barely see any signs, just a leaf here or there. I love to look at these orchids, they may not have the same flamboyance of the larger oriental orchids but they are so beautifuly marked. As we returned to the carpark I noticed how intersting the dead tree looked as its bare branches stood out against the green of its neighbours.
By mid morning the sun had disappeared and when we went for our afternoon walk we got very wet.
By 8pm the sky was blue again.

A cold start to June

Yesterday the first day of June was wet and cold and today although dry is still cold. I have taken a wander through my digital photos and chosen some pictures of the dogs. In 1999 Raffles was still a puppy and you can see he has dug up half a rose bush!
One of my favourite pictures is the one I have chosen for 2001 Here my two golden retrievers Kerry and Digby join Raffles in a field of buttercups. Digby was 14 and Kerry 12 and by the following June they had both died.
In 2004 Missy was only 6 months old
