Woodlands

I walked at Woodlands this afternoon and it was dul and dark and freezing cold. Photos didn't turn out too well as there was not really enough light but I do love the spooky dogs eyes.

Back to Millyford

We walked at Millyford again this afternoon . despite another day of heavy rain yesterday the waterlevels had gone down. The little waterfall was still roaring away though . The wet and windy weather has blown alot of leaves of the trees.Today although quite chilly was sunny and for most of the day we had deep blue skies. As we got back to the car we caught the last rays of the sun.

Highland Water rushing by

This morning it was quite wet, although we did get some breaks between the showers. Ithad rained heavily for much of the night and It is hard to believe that these photos were taken at the same little stream we visited last Sunday, then it was very low and really not much of a stream at all.

Walking at Highland water.

Because we were unable to park at the Canadian Cross, we drove on to Highland water and walked by this pleasant little stream. Some of the trees have changed colour and are losing their leaves but there are still many green ones around. On the way home we spotted a little group of fallow does grazing by the road. Another pleasant walk.

The Canadian Memorial

There is a wooden cross in the Forest that serves as a memorial to the canadian soldiers who were camped here in the winter of 1943/44 as they prepared for the D day landings. In April 1944 Their Pardre canon Keith Perdue errected a Pine cross on this spot and services were held to pray for their safe return. it was later replaced with a simple cross made of Oak to serve as a memorial to those who lost their lives.
Today we arrived at the cross just as a small service was taking placefor Remembrance Sunday. The little car park was filled and all along the road were about 50 Harley Davidson Motor bikes as the New Forest Club had joined in the service and brought their own cross made of poppies to lay in remembrance of those who gave their lives.
On our way home the car park was deserted and I stopped to take some photos for my Canadian Friends.

A walk at Shatterford

The sun was shining as we set off today, but it was overcast by the time we returned. However after heavy rain overnight at least it stayed dry. during our walk we came across the drag hunt as they laid a trail for the hounds to follow. We could hear the hounds in the distance but we did not see them. We came across a number of Hunts peole as they rode to meet the hounds andwe saw several deer spooked by the noise. The ponies were also running to move out of the way.
Missy and Raffles enjoying their walk at Shatterford. We had heavy rain over night and there were lots of puddles for them to play in.

Shatterford is a very boggy area of the forest and raised walkways and little bridges are there to help you get over the worst bits.
