This was a spectacular re-enactment of the funeral procession of Lord Nelson
A 40 strong flotilla of oared vessels made the journey fromGreenwich toWestminster retracing the route of Nelson's coffin. Up to 500 oarsmen dressed in period costume took part and it was one of the highlights of the SeaBritain2005year commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.
We had a spectacular view from St Catherines Pier just to the left of Tower bridge. Mattie persuaded the ticket collectors for the boats that cruise up and down the Thames to let us onto the Pier so we could see the crowds lining the bridge and sides of the Thames as well as getting very good shots of the Flotilla as it passed HMS Belfast. We were also deafened by the 15 gun salute that the Belfast fired.
