Missy has come into season so it is a little difficult to keep her on a lead and take pictures. So today I am showing you some pictures of Beaulieu, one of the small villages in the forest. The Village , is just one small high street opposite Palace House the home of Lord Montague. Palace House was built on land adjoining Beaulieu Abbey in 1872 The Abbey was built by King John in the 13th century and was destroyed by Henry VIII during the dissolution of the Monastries after Henry broke with Rome and declared himself the Head of the Church of England. However much of the Abbey ruins remain. The Refectory of the Abbey was rebuilt as the Parish Church and services are still held there.
The Montague Motor Museum was opened in 1952 by the Present Lord Montague in memory of his father a pioneer motorist.Originally there were just 5 vintage cars. Today The National Motor Museum (as it is now known ) and contains over 200 cars and a large collection of Cycles and Motor cycles.
Last year when Mattie was over from Vancouver we visited Beaulieu so later in the week I will post some pictures of The Abbey, The gardens and the Motor Museum.
