Its still pretty miserable here weather wise. This morning we took Missy to her agility class and it was chilly standing around. I didn't take the camera because it was showery and very overcast. We have been getting ready for Matties visit. He arrives in 10 days and then we will be travelling about a bit so entries to the blog maybe a bit erratic.
Any way I am posting some more pics for Val today She continues her review here.
http://puggyyarns.squarespace.com/the-bookshelf/2006/5/21/beaulieu-the-forest-monastery.html
She is now reading about Beaulieu Abbey and the monks who lived here. However she will find that she will also discover more about the families introduced in the earlier chapters. Just a couple of hundred years further on.
Beaulieu Abbey is now part of the Beaulieu Estate, the home of Lord Montague. The National Motor Museum is also housed in the grounds. A visit here has something for everyone. Beautiful grounds, a large selection of motor vehicles, the Abbey Ruins andPalace House, Lord Montagues Home.
When Henry VIII divorced Catherine of Aragon and broke away from the Roman Catholic Church the Monasteries were dissolved and the lands were given to noblemen loyal to the King.
They used the stone from the destroyed abbeys to build palacial homes for themselves.
However enough of the ruins are left for Val to imagine ghostly Monks floating around.
