Yesterday we took a trip to Bath. it is about 90 mins drive from here.
bath is anothe city with a lot of history. The Romans built the baths and founded the City of Aquae Sulis.
During Georgian times it became veryfashionable to visit the baths and bathe or drink the water which was reputed to have healing properties.Their are many wonderful Georgian properties in the city.
The water comes from a natural hot spring and the Romans built an incredible complex of baths and rooms for the use of their ruling clases.A museum is set up around the baths displaying some of the mosaics and ancient finds.
Bath Abbey was built in 1499 and is a beautiful light buiding built with the local stone.it has some beautiful stained glass windows.it is right next to the Roman baths.
The Royal crescent was designed by John Wood the younger. The semi elliptical terrace of 30 grand houses ornamented with 114 Ionic columns attracted many wealthy visitors who would rent a house for the season, and other fine building sprung up all over the city to accomodate the less wealthy.
On the way home we took a detour to visit the little villae of Nunney. This very small village has a small moated castle.begun in 1373it was the home of the Delameres. The castle was held by Colonel John Prater for the Royalists in the Civil war but was soon breached by the parliamentarians. The castle remains are still privately owned but members of the public are allowed to wander onto its little island and explore the ruins.

I have been to Oxford, but not Bath. Whenever I visit your blog, I feel I need to return to England for a visit. I have been several times (most recent was in 2000) and with each visit there is always a new discovery. Thanks for a post that sparks the desire to travel again.
