A ride around North Hampshire.

This is the church at Privett.Holy Trinity.
Privett is a tiny little village in Hampshire and this is avery Large church. It was designed by Blomfield and built in 1876-78 at the expense of Sir William Nicholson, the distiller. It has a four bay nave with aisles and a clerestory, transepts and a sumptuously apponted Chancel thatwith its mosaic floors, conveys the quality and craftmanship of the whole church.
In such a small village it is impossible to maintain and upkeep such a massive building so the Churches Conservation Trust looks after it. Although regular services are no longer held here it is still consecrated and special services are occasionally held. A number of more recent graves were in the churchyard, but much of the churchyard is waist high in long grass. There were signs asking people to be sure to close the gates as sheep grazed in the churchyard but we did not see any evidence of them.

what a grand old church - and that beautiful stained glass pictures, Missy & Raffles look beautiful next to the purple lavender, I can imagine how great the smell was. :-)
