Catkins........many type of tree produce Catkins,including Birch,willows ,populars and hazels. The male catkins produce large amounts of pollen and develop before the female ones. They are a simplified form of flower. Posted by Picasa

Hi Val, i added a little bit to my catkins picture they are the tree flowers. They have no petals, but produce large amounts of pollen that is then dispersed py the wind. they appear before the leaves of the trees.

Interesting I think you should call them 'cat tails' *lol*
